Special Olympics Germany (SOD) is the German organization of the world's largest sports movement for people with intellectual and multiple disabilities, officially recognized by the International Olympic Committee (IOC). Founded in 1968 by Eunice Kennedy-Shriver, sister of US President John F. Kennedy, Special Olympics now has nearly 4 million athletes in 170 countries. As an association with special responsibilities, SOD is a member of the German Olympic Sports Confederation (DOSB) and today provides more than 40,000 people with intellectual disabilities with self-determined choices ranging from disability-specific to inclusive offerings. Through its commitment, Karl Küfner GmbH & Co. KG promotes the opportunities for members of the Baden-Württemberg Association to participate in competitions in various disciplines at various venues.
