Sponsorship for training students in cardiopulmonary resuscitation – Seventh graders become lifesavers.
In 2022, Karl Küfner GmbH & Co. KG once again sponsored the training of students in cardiopulmonary resuscitation as part of the Björn Steiger Foundation's “Retten macht Schule” (Rescue Goes to School) project at the Ebingen Gymnasium in Albstadt. The initiative enables teachers and seventh-grade students to be trained in resuscitation and provides teachers with comprehensive teaching materials that they can use to conduct resuscitation lessons independently. The school is equipped with training mannequins, a handbook for teachers, and a training DVD. The initial training by the Björn Steiger Foundation and the teaching materials are free of charge for the school.
Heart disease is the leading cause of death in Germany. According to estimates, 100,000 people suffer sudden cardiac death every year. They often die because they do not receive help in time or at all. In many cases, victims only have a chance if bystanders at the scene immediately begin chest compressions and use an AED (automated external defibrillator). It is therefore crucial to bridge the time until the emergency doctor arrives with effective chest compressions, as without chest compressions, the patient is highly likely to suffer irreparable damage after just five minutes. Since 2009, the Björn Steiger Foundation has been involved in training seventh-grade students in German schools in cardiopulmonary resuscitation and lay defibrillation, thereby making a decisive contribution to the widespread training of the population in resuscitation measures.
